We have sent along the rules outlined
in most of our major tournaments. We would like to stay with consistent
rules so there is not confusion to the competitors. We are all out to
have a great time and promote these Martial Art sports of Gi Grappling
and Continuous Sparring.
Continuous Sparring Event Rules
The Continuous Sparring Event is round based light contact point
fighting. Easily accessible to virtually all striking arts, continuous
sparring is fast paced and exciting for both participants and
spectators.
Round lengths
Kids
white/yellow belt - one 45 second round
orange/green belt - one 60 second round
blue/brown belt - one 60 second round
Black belt - two 60 second rounds
Adults
white/ yellow belt - one 60 second round
orange/green belt - one 60 second round
blue/brown belt - two 60 second rounds
black belt - two 2 minute rounds
Match Rules
- Points are accumulated on each of the judges "clickers" and each
judge calls the winner of the round based on his score. In the event of
a 1-1 round tie, the center referee can break the tie..
Point System
- Any legal hand striking technique - 1 point
- Body kicks - 1 point
- Head kicks - 2 points
- Spin kicks - 2 points
*all strikes must be precise, controlled techniques, with light touch contact
Foul: warning, 2 point deduction, disqualification
Minimum Required Gear
- Shorts or sport pants
- Groin Protector
- Mouth Guard
- Head Gear
- Gloves (10oz)
- Foot Protectors, or shin/instep protector combo
- t-shirt/tank top or rash guard
*no unprotected part of the body may be used to score points.
**Competitors can wear any combination of shorts, T-shirts, rash guards, partial or full Gi.
Gi Grappling Rules
Required Equipment
- Full Gi (with sleeves)
- Belt
- Mouth guard
- Groin Protector
A rash guard or t-shirt may be worn under the gi
Gi Grappling Scoring System
- Takedowns - 2 points
- Guard pass to side control - 2 points
- Sweep from guard - 2 points
- Knee on stomach position(Held for 5 seconds)- 2 points
- Scarf Hold (held for 5 seconds) - 2 points
- North-south position ( held for 5 seconds) -2 points
- Mount(Held for 5 seconds) - 3 points
- Back mount with hooks(Held for 5 seconds)- 4 points
Warnings followed by point deductions may be given by the referee for running away, fouls, or any other actions deemed inappropriate.
Time Limits
- Kids/Teens - Beginner and advanced divisions: 1 x 3 minute round
- Kids/Teens - Advanced divisions: 1 x 4 minute round
- Adult – Beginner and Intermediate divisions: 1 x 4 minute round
- Adult – Advanced & Expert divisions: 1 x 5 minute round
Illegal Techniques
- No heel hooks
- No neck cranks
- No twisting ankle or leg attacks
- No attacks to the front of the windpipe
- No hair pulling
- No fingers in any orifice
- No slamming an opponent on the mat
- No striking of any kind
- No small joint manipulation (toes, fingers)
- Any conduct deemed inappropriate or showing poor sportsmanship
Match Rules
- The match may be restarted standing if there is continued stalling on the ground
- If no takedown occurs, the match may be restarted on the knees or from the guard position (top control would be determined by coin flip)
- If the competitors go off the mat, the match may be stopped and restarted in the centre of the ring in the same position as determined by the referee
- The referee has the right to call a timeout to check the condition of the competitors in the event of an injury
We reserve the right to cancel or
combine any division(s) due to lack of participation or competitors (minimum
4 competitiors per ring) If your division is cancelled and forming a new
division is not possible, any applicable fees will be refunded
